The tea tree essential oil is derived from the native Australian plant Melaleuca Alternifolia. The name Melaleuca is derived from Ancient Greek with melas meaning “dark” or “black” and leukos meaning “white”. This was because one of the first specimens described it as having “fire-blackened white bark.”
