The vehicle was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and sales began in mid-2010 in Europeand in the United States in mid-2011Mercedes presented at the 2012 Paris Motor Show an electric version of the car, named Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive.
