COUNCIL REPORT :- Myles Buchanan at Wicklow County Council
''Ways to Protect the Murrough being Examined''
together with photo of the recent works on the Murrough by Irish Rail.
Carolann Murphy of Save the Murrough gave a 10 minute speech, with the brief from the Council ''to bring the concerns expressed by the public about the erosion and protection and preservation of the Murrouogh to the monthly Council meeting'' - The meetings are chaired and administered by staff of Wicklow Council, attended by locally elected Wicklow Municipal Councillors, of all parties and none, and open to the public to attend but not participate in - also of course the local press attend and report on all the various issues raised, discussed, debated and voted on

Save the Murrough campaign is only starting and we will get back in a few days with a plan...if anyone wants to be involved in any way or wants to make any comment or suggestion - please PM us on this page or email: [email protected]

Thank you all for your support and encouragement so far

Note: We are an entirely voluntary group with no other agenda than to see the Murrough protected, as far as is possible,in its natural state, for local amenity use, the ralway line to Rosslare Harbour, and the amazing wildlife areas protected by European legislation, including insects, animals and birds, flora and fauna, salt marsh lakes and wetlands - of worldwide renown - which run adjacent to the public walking/running/training area for all ages and many sporting activities over the years. The Murrough extends from Wicklow Harbour for 13.5 Km and 1Km inwards in parts - to Kilcoole, close to Kilcoole railway station, and include Broadlough, the Wild Life Nature Park at Newcastle and the wetlands at Kilcoole.
