Youth Opera Ireland

Young singers aged 8 to 16, this is a special chance to be part of an imaginative new opera created in collaboration with young performers.

Youth Opera Ireland is inviting young people from across Ireland to audition for The Wish Thief by Leighton Jones. Auditions at RIAM take the form of a creative workshop, so there is no prepared piece and no previous experience needed, just a love of singing and a willingness to get involved.

Introducing the Director of The Wish Thief: Niamh McGowan

Niamh is a theatre and movement director who is passionate about storytelling and supporting young artists. After completing her MA at the , she founded , directing shows like Spring Awakening, Guys & Dolls, and Sweeney Todd, and earning two Best Director awards.

She recently co-founded , whose debut musical The Last Five Years opened in in June 2025. Niamh also worked with as movement director on Pea Dinneen: Raising Her Voice, winner of Best Overall Production at 2025.
