The scariest permission I gave myself this year was to say no to a version of me I’d outgrown.
For 18 months I stopped following the formula. Let go of an identity that no longer felt true.
I didn’t create or launch anything new until it felt fully aligned.
It felt like a waiting room between versions of myself. Some days like an ego death. I became more invisible and quiet. I felt like my work was in a contraction.
And still - I knew I needed to stay there and wait.
In that liminal space - the mush, the chrysalis, the not knowing - something finally emerged.
It wasn’t a mindset shift. Wasn’t being more productivity. Wasn’t another framework.
It was capacity.
When our nervous system is overloaded, we can know exactly what we want and still struggle to move toward it. I only learned this by building capacity in myself at a time I was at capacity.

Each week I’ve been experimenting with different ways to build my capacity. It’s become both a personal practice and a curiosity I keep wanting to follow.
For me, capacity is about helping my nervous system feel safe and connected enough to respond to life rather than constantly react to it.
This week, my husband and I went into the reserve near our house at sunset, lay on the ground, drank tea, and listened to the orchestra of birds as the day turned into night.
I noticed my whole system relax as I tuned into nature.
Sound has a profound effect on the nervous system, either activating it or settling it.
Birdsong, in particular, acts as an ancient cue of safety for the human body. Birds generally don’t sing when there is danger nearby, so somewhere deep in the nervous system, their song signals that it’s safe to soften.
If you’ve been feeling at capacity lately, maybe try sitting outside for a few minutes and listening to the birds.
Notice what happens in your body.

What are you waiting for?
So many of us aren’t even aware that we are secretly waiting for someone to come and find us, save us, buy from us, choose us or promote us.
The truth is unless you choose yourself and take aligned action from that place, no one is coming.
