Taxi Catches Fire and Explodes on Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
At approximately 11:30 pm on 6 July, a New Territories taxi carrying passengers caught fire on the Chek Lap Kok Road flyover, located at the Hong Kong Port artificial island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). The driver and two passengers managed to escape the vehicle safely.
Dashcam footage capturing the exact moment of the incident has circulated widely online. The video shows a sudden, loud explosion on the flyover as the taxi erupts into a fierce fireball. Flames shot several metres into the air, and burning debris plummeted onto the roadway below, narrowly missing passing vehicles.
According to the police, the taxi had picked up two passengers at the HZMB Hong Kong Port artificial island and was travelling along Chek Lap Kok Road towards Tuen Mun. During the journey, the driver noticed a burning smell, promptly pulled over, and evacuated the vehicle with passengers. The taxi exploded shortly afterwards. Firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Snakes have been seen floating in floodwaters in Guangxi, China, after a breeding farm was destroyed by severe flooding caused by Typhoon Maysak. Around 900 snakes escaped, including venomous cobras alongside non-venomous king ratsnakes and oriental ratsnakes, leaving at least one villager bitten.
As of today (7 July), the typhoon has left four people dead, eight missing, and forced over 53,000 to evacuate across Hengzhou.
Eight people were killed and another is missing after thunderstorms and gales hit central China’s Hubei Province on Monday night.
Emergency management authorities in the province said thunderstorms and strong winds hit Huangshi, Huanggang, Ezhou, and Xianning. Local authorities said some areas saw tornadoes.
Rescue operations are underway, authorities said.
