leaders are gathering in 🇧🇷 for the 22nd Free Land Camp 2026, facing growing pressure from mining interests and political challenges. The event seeks to bring together around 6,000 participants while strengthening political representation ahead of national elections.
✋🏾The assembly includes representatives from nearly 300 Indigenous groups, focusing on two main issues: the expansion of mining into their territories and the need to increase their presence in Congress. Frustration is growing over slow progress in land demarcation, with many territories still waiting official recognition. At the same time, proposed laws and court actions are advancing efforts to regulate mining in Indigenous lands.
📢 In response, leaders are combining protest with political strategies, aiming to expand their representation in Congress from three to as many as six seats. While the current government is still seen as a better ally, concerns persist over limited progress and internal divisions. These efforts could influence the future of Indigenous rights and environmental policy in Brazil.
