GUAM ALERT HUB IS LIVE

As Super Typhoon Bavi approaches the Marianas, Guam News Network has launched Guam Alert Hub, a new community storm reporting platform for residents.

The site gives the public one place to follow storm updates and report what is happening in their area.

Residents can use the Community Feed to report:

Power outages
Low power
Flooding
Downed trees
Blocked roads
Storm damage
Closures
Utility issues
Other neighborhood concerns

Guam Alert Hub also includes a map feature so residents can view reported issues by location and better understand what is being reported across the island.

The platform is part of GNN Storm Watch Coverage and is designed to help organize official alerts, public advisories, utility updates, school and business closures, Guam News Network coverage and community-submitted reports into one mobile-friendly feed.

Community reports are not a replacement for official emergency information. Residents should continue to follow updates from NWS Guam, Guam Homeland Security/OCD, Adelup, GPA, GWA and other official agencies.

The Guam Power Authority advised its customers that the Island-Wide Power System may become unstable during post-typhoon restoration, with fluctuating voltages, interruptions and intermittent outages expected until recovery is complete.
Customers whose power has been restored may still experience outages, GPA said. The utility said this is not unusual, as the grid remains fragile during restoration and periods of instability will continue until the island is fully re-energized.
“Please be assured that once your feeder/circuit has been energized your power will return, even as interruptions or outages happen,” the utility said in a release.
GPA said it will work to restore power as quickly as possible and that interruptions should decrease once island-wide restoration is complete and the system stabilizes.
In the meantime, the authority reminds residents to unplug or protect sensitive electronic equipment to prevent damage from lightning strikes or power surges.
Customers experiencing power fluctuations, brownouts, partial power, extremely bright lights, dimming or flickering lights, or water coming from outlets should turn off their main breaker immediately to avoid damaging appliances, GPA said.
