As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Peace of Mind (POM) joined an interview with The Woman Boss featuring Dr. Silvia Lorenzi to discuss mental health challenges affecting girls and women in The Gambia.
The conversation highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, safe spaces, community support, and access to professional help. Dr. Lorenzi also emphasized how social norms, abuse, and early marriage can affect emotional well-being.
Throughout this month, POM continues raising awareness through community engagement, trainings, media platforms, and social media advocacy to remind everyone that there is no health without mental health.

Today marked the official closing ceremony of key initiatives supported by Gambian-German Centre, The Gambia, and we are proud that one of the highlighted programs was the MHPSS Master Training of Trainers Program successfully delivered by POM.
As part of the event, we had the opportunity to showcase the hard-copy materials developed for the training, including the Facilitator’s Guides, participant handouts, and PowerPoint presentations for all three modules. These resources reflect the dedication and quality invested in the program from development to delivery.
A special highlight of the exhibition was seeing our trained master trainers actively engaging with visitors — welcoming them, sharing insights about the program, and explaining what they learned throughout the training journey. It was a proud moment of connection, learning, and appreciation for the collective work achieved.
This program demonstrates the importance of strengthening Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) capacity through practical, context-based training for service providers. We are honored to have contributed to building a strong pool of trainers who will continue cascading this knowledge across communities and institutions.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Center for Migration and Development (ZME), The Gambia for the trust, partnership, and support throughout the process. Our gratitude also goes to The Gambia Red Cross Society and all partner institutions that made their staff and volunteers available to participate in both the master training and the step-down trainings. Not forgetting Alhagie Manka for the beautiful pictures
At Peace of Mind, we remain committed to promoting impactful and sustainable approaches to MHPSS capacity building, and we look forward to creating even more meaningful change together.
