MPS Tema Port

MPS has achieved another major milestone in its mission to redefine port efficiency and capacity in West Africa with the arrival of sixteen cutting-edge electric Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (16 eRTGs).
In the early hours of a misty tropical morning, the heavy-lift vessel RAM COMMANDER, a tactical project cargo carrier, docked at MPS Terminal 3, delivering a spectacular cargo that marks the next phase of operational expansion. The arrival created a striking scene along the Tema coastline, drawing the attention of local communities and the port business ecosystem alike.
This development forms part of a broader capacity upgrade programme aimed at meeting growing trade demand and reinforcing MPS’s position as a leading logistics hub in the region.
The momentum continues with the imminent arrival of the ultra-heavy carrier ZHENHUA 32, a strategic infrastructure vessel transporting three additional Ship-to-Shore (STS) gantry cranes. Once deployed, these assets will increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity to 3 million TEUs.

A Triumph in Safety and Excellence!
Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS) has successfully marked another significant milestone with the handover of the second section of the ongoing Phase 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project.
This achievement represents the completion of an additional 80,000 square meters of the project’s total 270,000-square-meter development, along with a 525 m² steel-framed warehouse. The work was executed by the contractor joint venture EIFFAGE Génie Civil Marine SA & De Simone Ltd and CONSAR Ltd, under the supervision of AECOM, the project management consultants.
Notably, this milestone coincided with the celebration of two million safe working hours without any lost-time injuries (LTI) on this project, an outstanding testament to the commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Phase 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project involves the development of a 270,000-square-meter area, designed to withstand the demands of heavy port operations. This expansion enhances efficiency in cargo handling and reaffirms MPS’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s position as a premier maritime and trade hub.
