BUI POWER AUTHORITY COMPLETES COMMUNITY SENSITISATION AHEAD OF PEAK RAINY SEASON

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has successfully concluded its 2026 Annual Community Sensitisation Exercise across upstream communities within its operational areas, reinforcing its commitment to public safety, stakeholder engagement, and emergency preparedness ahead of the peak rainy season.

The upstream outreach exercise was conducted from June 15 to 19, 2026, covering 24 communities in the Banda District. The exercise formed the second and concluding phase of BPA's annual community sensitisation programme, following similar engagements with downstream communities undertaken from June 1 to 5, 2026.

The sensitisation programme was led by officers from BPA's Engineering Services Department (ESD), with support from the Community Relations and Public Relations Units, the Transport Department, and personnel of the Ghana Army, who provided security throughout the exercise.

The team engaged residents on the importance of adhering to designated buffer and safety zones around the Authority's operational areas and educated them on emergency preparedness measures in the unlikely event of a controlled dam spillage. Community members were assured that BPA remains committed to preventing spillages through prudent dam management and that timely information would be communicated should operational circumstances necessitate such action.

Beyond safety awareness, the exercise provided an opportunity for BPA to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including district authorities, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and community representatives. The team also verified and updated stakeholder contact information to enhance communication and coordination during emergency situations.

Residents actively participated in the engagements, raising concerns and seeking clarification on issues including compensation arrangements, the impact of dam operations on fishing activities, and the possibility of future spillages. BPA officials addressed the concerns and reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to transparency, continuous stakeholder engagement, and the protection of lives and property.

The exercise concluded on June 19, 2026, in Ntereso, where community leaders and residents expressed appreciation for BPA's sustained outreach efforts and proactive approach to community safety and awareness.

The successful completion of the sensitisation programme underscores BPA's ongoing commitment to fostering strong partnerships with host communities while promoting awareness, preparedness, and resilience in the face of seasonal weather challenges.
