The 20th Plenary Assembly of the Symposium of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) was officially opened on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The opening ceremony followed a solemn Mass celebrated at Regina Pacis Parish Church in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event was graced by the presence of His Eminence Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, Archbishop of Kinshasa and President of SECAM. Representing the President of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Mr. Paul Kagame, was the Prime Minister, Mr. Justin Nsengiyumva.

This major assembly has brought together over 200 participants, including 13 cardinals, 85 bishops, 72 priests, as well as numerous nuns and lay faithful — both men and women.

The proceedings of the assembly are currently ongoing.
