Did you know there are different ways to apply radiotherapy in cancer treatment? For example, external beam radiotherapy is when radiation beams are directed towards the area of the growth in the patient’s body. Brachytherapy, on the other hand, is when a protective capsule containing radioactive sources is placed inside the patient’s body either near, or directly on, the growth. Depending on the nature of the growth, a patient may receive either treatment or both. The IAEA provides countries with training and equipment on the proper use of these techniques.
