šŗImmediate Reaction ā¼ļø
Result always the most important thing and a huge step forwards for the confidence of the club as awhole - long way to go so getting carried away? Absolutely not!
šŗPros
šøDefensively aggressive in press and counter-press, not necessarily where on the field but the individual defending was much more impactful on the player with the ball and hunted more in packs! Defensive structure and organization a huge part to help with the individual.
šøSimilar to last game, less overplay in defensive areas and playing through the lines quicker from Sa, back three and central midfield pair.
šøPivotal change in central midfielders purpose with the ball, receiving to play forward and with intent as opposed to playing sideways and backwards - Andre and Joao Gomes were exceptional.
ā¦ļøCons
āŖļøUnderstandably nervous at 1-0, would have to likes us to continue to play forwards a little quicker to keep playing in advanced areas. Felt we went back to some GON tendencies as we tried to control the game.
āŖļøPossession / Speed of Play - still some easy give aways early on in the game, confidence will build this better but technically need to make sure we play to our strengths and get caught on the ball cheaply against the better teams.
āŖļøFinal delivery - had some good positions to try and capitalize on with some misplaced balls - Doherty, Ait Nouri and Larsen spring to mind.
Trying to keep a balanced argument with 3 pros and cons but difficult to list cons based on game by game - cons will always feel a little harsh with a really positive performance overall!
Two games, two wins for Vitor Pereira's Wolves! š
I am tired of this narrative around Gary OāNeill being a nice guy - yes Fosun have a huge part to play in terms of recruitment and investment back into the team - but OāNeills tactical set up and naivety is mind blowing to me!
Heās always been the one that talks about little details and all this prep work but started the season with two full-backs who canāt defend (NS and RAN) in our toughest run of games we could imagine and took forever to change it - then starts NS as a right CB with Dawson on the bench (who has been very poor this season I concur)
The openess to leave a poor defensive team individually open and not compact in key moments is unforgivable from a coaching perspective and tired of him getting credit for a terrible run of form and defensive setup when itās clear we are not good enough individually - so work on the collective! Rant over!!

A fantastic performance in the opening game of the season at Old Trafford, suffering an undeserved 1-0 defeat. A performance of energy, drive and purpose leading to 23 shots (6 on target) and completely dominant in all areas of the field minus the crucial part - goals scored. There is no doubt that the players and new coaching staff will be stung by the result but buoyed by a performance that will give them the confidence to build towards a fascinating game against Brighton at the weekend....

Itās not the desired way to start the season but we are here. Julen Lopeteguiās departure not a real surprise considering his comments since May and his body language in pre-season probably clear he was far from content with embracing the challenge as the club go through a period of consolidation, hopefully for future growth. The appointment of Gary OāNeil was relatively swift and could prove to be a postive step for the club....
