This is an outrage. The site should be refurbished and reinstated as a bus station - not privatised. Time and time again the main stream parties are failing the town. Why are the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour Councillors not asking for the party political leaders to stop this? Why do they not have the spine or the back bone to tell their party political leaders to stop funding wars and start focusing on protecting our community assets?
If I am voted in as the ward councilor for Slough, I will oppose all attempts to make Slough residents pay for the financial mess caused by the obsession the 3 main parties have with funding wars while defunding Slough.

The council’s cabinet committee is set to decide the future of the site of the former bus station at their meeting on Thursday 15 January.

The bus station site has been derelict since a fire in October 2022 severely damaged the aluminium structure. Since then, the council has been in a protracted negotiation with the building’s insurers.

Now Cabinet Committee – a special committee which deals exclusively with matters relating to council assets – is being asked to consider declaring the site as surplus; paving the way for a brand new development which both reflects and enhances the regeneration planned for the former TVU site, the shopping centres and the High Street.

The council’s aspiration is to provide a new bus interchange within the town centre area which addresses the faults of the former station providing an improved experience for passengers and the bus operators and enhancing the public realm while enabling other development to come forward.

Councillor Wal Chahal, deputy leader of the council and lead member for assets, said: “The former bus station, though visually striking, did not provide the best experience for passengers or operators of the buses.

“Now the insurance issues have been dealt with, we are able to look at the site afresh and fully explore the options for providing the best possible transport interchange.

“We are committed to providing an effective, safe and sustainable bus interchange for residents in this, the heart of the town, and I am looking forward to our discussions on how we can make our vision a reality.”

It is estimated rebuilding the former bus station, to what it was, would cost in excess of £14 million a value far greater than the insurance payout received.

The current derelict site, thanks to business rates, capital costs and security required, is costing the council more than £200,000 a year as it is at present.

Leader of the council, councillor Dexter Smith, added: "We are not only trying to keep our options open as we decide what is best for the town in the 21st century, but we are also giving Cabinet some additional options to get this right for Slough's future needs".

The report and details of the meeting can be found on the council’s website. https://democracy.slough.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=710&MId=8941

I’m really proud to be standing as a candidate from the Workers Party Britian ( George Galloway). If you haven’t already, checkout the 10 point manifesto.

While Slough sinks into debt and uncollected waste, the 3 main parties continue to push for billions in UK tax revenue to fund wars overseas and privatisation.
I’m not prepared to sit by and do nothing. Nor should you. It’s time to hold Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats accountable for the economic mess they have left Slough in.
If elected as your ward councillor, I will be your voice in the council chambers and will always vote against austerity.

A lack of affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges facing Britain. Renters face price increases that outpace the rate inflation and wage growth, new builds are often unaffordable and a generation of entrepreneurs see HMOs and buy-to-let’s as a route to financial freedom and success. Increasing numbers of billionaires also make their wealth from property and inheritance as per @theequalitytrust

What is the plan for social housing in Slough? London Boroughs are buying up tower blocks to house their residents here. Why is Slough Borough not doing the same for our residents? Why have the Tories, Labour and Liberal Democrats not set targets to house those on the housing register with in 1 year? If money is an issue, how much money have they spent on the never ending wars? How much money on bailing out the bankers so that they could enjoy their bonuses? How much money for the dodgy COVID contracts?
The main stream parties have shown that they are economically illiterate and incapable of managing the the local and national finances of the state.

"The role of private equity is disgusting."

Ash Sarkar returned to Question Time last night. She challenged the legacy of privatisation in public utilities like rail and highlighted the true cost of profit in social care.

Ash pointed to the £200 billion in taxpayers money given to shareholders as evidence of why "everything is too expensive and nothing works." 28/12/2025

Privatisation has failed Slough. Slough residents are paying sky high bills so that the fat cat CEOs and share holders of the big energy companies can line their pockets. This is the collective fault of the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats who have allowed this system to continue. The mainstream councillors should be up speaking up to their party political leaders about this.

A Health Secretary who won’t meet #NHS patients…but will take £220k+ from private healthcare donors.

So yes - we brought a puppet to Wes Streeting’s office to ask the question: who is really pulling Streeting’s strings? 28/12/2025

Solidarity to the NHS frontline staff and the junior doctors who are on strike. If elected as your ward councillor, I will not shy away from supporting trade union workers.
