Our single 'disappeared' is out!

'disappeared' is firstly a song about my family heritage. My family are from India, and we are dalits, from the 'untouchable' caste. The caste system is an ancient social hierarchy that bonds people to the work they, and their descendants, will do for life. Dalits are deemed 'unclean', are the targets of violence, are segregrated from the rest of society, and are forced to do the dirtiest work.

This song is also about how every society has a group of people - the 'untouchables' - who are simultaneously obsessed over, whilst their labour and suffering are invisiblised. Colonised peoples, migrants, displaced people. Entire societies are built on the backs of those kept out of sight, but this is not inevitable. If we wanted we could choose different names, make the erased visible, and remake a broken system.

The band are:
Peter Hodge - drums
Ric Booth- Electric guitar
Ben Eckersley - cello
gannnet - Vocals and clarinet
Martha Pedler - Vocals and violin
