The UK Boardroom Apprentice programme would not have been possible without the Host Boards who opened their boardrooms, shared their time and engaged seriously with the responsibility of developing future Board members.

By welcoming Boardroom Apprentices into real governance settings, Host Boards played a vital role in building confidence, understanding and readiness for board-level responsibility.

We would like to thank all the organisations and board members who supported the programme across the three years and helped strengthen the future of governance across the public and third sectors.

The impact of the Boardroom Apprentice Programme is best understood through the people who have experienced it.

Across the three cohorts, Boardroom Apprentices shared powerful reflections on how the programme has supported their confidence, knowledge, understanding and readiness for board-level responsibility.

Their feedback shows how structured learning, real boardroom experience and support have helped them:

✨ Build confidence
✨ Develop practical, boardroom-ready skills
✨ Open doors to future opportunities
✨ Grow personally and professionally

At its core, this programme is about people, their growth, their potential and their path to the boardroom.

The UK Boardroom Apprentice Learning and Development Programme 3 Year Evaluation Summary sets out the programme’s strategic impact across the three years.

The summary shows how structured learning and real-world boardroom experience have supported:

✔️ Development of governance, financial and leadership skills
✔️ Increased confidence, knowledge and board readiness
✔️ More diverse and representative thinking in boardroom settings
✔️ Positive feedback from Host Boards on contribution, diversity and decision-making

The summary also identifies areas for continued focus.

⚠️ Public trust and confidence remain barriers for aspiring Board members
⚠️ Many aspiring Board members, especially younger people, continue to lack access to opportunity and training
⚠️ Long-term sustainability and capacity remain important considerations

Together, the findings show clear impact, while also recognising the work still needed to support wider access to board-level participation.
