While I'm still delighted at the Stockport results, I'm sure that lots of people are ready from a break from local elections, so this week's column is on mountain rescue, and stopping red tape getting in the way of them working at local events.

A long video, but a really important topic. It's about the flaws in The Hague Convention that are putting victims of domestic violence, and their children, at risk. While the Convention was written with the best of intentions, we are now much more aware of the risks posed by domestic violence, and what we need to do to prevent that.
I spoke in the Westminster Hall debate on this topic, which gives us much more time to go into the detail of these issues, and to really get to grips with such legislation. We have a real opportunity to revise this international agreement to change it for the better.
Thank you to the local residents who have spoken to me about this issue, and to the incredible work of the Hague Mothers in working to get this changed.

Often the first contact that is made, it is vital that call handlers for the child maintenance service are well trained in recognising that they are dealing with vulnerable people or victims of domestic abuse. More work should and is being done to improve standards.
