Crustacean Compassion

We were pleased to be invited to the launch of FOUR PAWS' new report 'What's behind the label? The future of animal welfare labelling in the UK' last Thursday at the House of Commons.
We support FOUR PAWS' call for clear, mandatory animal welfare food labelling. Consumers deserve honest information about how animals were raised, so they can make informed choices and help drive higher welfare standards across the food industry - including seafood.
The event included a fascinating expert panel discussion on how accurate, meaningful welfare labelling can drive transparency and help consumers truly understand what they're buying and whether it aligns with their values.
It's time for the UK Government to introduce mandatory, meaningful animal welfare labelling that puts transparency first and helps create a food system that is better for animals, consumers and producers alike.

🦀 Fun Fact Friday
Recent research is showing that crustaceans may have something a bit unexpected… individual “personalities.”
Studies looking at crabs, lobsters and shrimp have found consistent differences in behaviour — with some individuals being bolder, more exploratory, or more cautious than others, and these traits stay stable over time.
That means they’re not just acting on instinct — they each respond to the world in their own way. Even underwater, it seems, there are the brave ones, the shy ones… and everything in between. 🧡
