Georgia O’Keeffe played a key role in inspiring Yayoi Kusama’s move to America? 🎨

In 1955, a young Kusama living in Japan wrote a letter to O’Keeffe, an artist she deeply admired but had never met. To her surprise, O’Keeffe wrote back with encouragement and advice, and the two continued corresponding.

Kusama later said she wasn’t sure she’d have made it to America without that encouragement. She left Japan for Seattle, then New York in 1958, where she later became one of the most influential contemporary artists in the world.
