You don't need a license to save a life. But now, saving a life is part of getting one.

Earlier this month, it was announced that questions relating to CPR and defibrillators are now included as part of the driving theory test.

Drivers are often the first on the scene when someone suffers a cardiac arrest behind the wheel. The addition of these questions means that the 2.4 million learner drivers who take the driving theory test each year will gain a better understanding of CPR and using a defibrillator when faced with an emergency.

The DVSA has released some example questions that will be included in the theory test from early 2026, which we have listed below. Could you pass? Let us know your answers in the comments!

❓ Who can use a public access defibrillator?
A- Paramedics only
B- First aiders only
C- Doctors only
D- Everyone

❓ An adult casualty is not breathing. To maintain circulation, CPR should be given. What's the correct depth to press down on their chest?
A- 1 to 2 centimetres
B- 5 to 6 centimetres
C- 10 to 15 centimetres
D- 15 to 20 centimetres
