Since the first vintage from in 2018, Alvina Pernot and her husband Philippe Abadie have been unstoppable. With access to some of Puligny-Montrachet’s finest vineyards and glowing reviews from critics, the couple has quickly established themselves as one of Burgundy’s most exciting new names.
What began in a make-shift cellar beneath their home is now a thriving domaine, producing 35,000 bottles across 24 cuvées – including prized Premiers and Grands Crus. Each year, Alvina and Philippe continue to refine their precision-driven style of Chardonnay, balancing family legacy with their own modern vision.
With their 2024 release due in early October, we revisit their journey – from the humble beginnings of La Rue aux Vaches to the completion of their own winery – and look ahead to what’s next for this dynamic young estate.

The hill of Corton sits at the heart of the Côte d’Or, yet its white wines – particularly Corton-Charlemagne – are often overlooked compared to Burgundy’s more famous Grands Crus. With a history dating back to Charlemagne himself, this vast and complex site produces some of Burgundy’s most powerful, long-lived whites, shaped by diverse exposures, steep slopes and unique soils.
Today, Corton-Charlemagne is Burgundy’s largest white Grand Cru, stretching across three villages and offering a wide spectrum of styles – from lean, mineral-driven wines to rich, opulent expressions. Producers highlight its diversity as both a strength and a challenge: while quality varies widely, the potential for greatness is undeniable. Climate change has only reinforced the site’s strengths, helping these cooler vineyards achieve consistent ripeness while maintaining freshness.
Many winemakers now see Corton-Charlemagne as the “white Grand Cru of the future” – capable of rivaling Montrachet in complexity and longevity. With the ability to age gracefully for decades, these wines are increasingly being reassessed by collectors and critics alike.
