Looking to have a more eco-friendly Easter this year? Here are some simple tips to help you celebrate sustainably:
🐣 Choose Easter eggs without plastic packaging. Many UK supermarkets now offer plastic-free eggs, and numerous options are crafted from recycled materials.
🐣 Get creative and make your own Easter goodies. Whip up treats like chocolate nests using ingredients packaged in recyclable paper and foil, like this one from Good Food: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/shredded-wheat-nests
🐣 Don’t forget to recycle all your Easter egg wrappers and packaging.
Here’s the best way to do it...
♻️ Foil from Easter egg tins: Gently remove any chocolate residue, gather the foil from everyone, and compress it into a fist-sized ball. This helps prevent small pieces from slipping through recycling machinery. Then, place it in your recycling bin. Be sure to check if your local council accepts foil.
♻️ Cardboard cartons: Remove any plastic windows, flatten the cardboard, and recycle it with your paper waste.
♻️ Plastic egg shells: Look for the recycling number (usually PET1). This plastic is commonly accepted in household recycling bins across the UK.
♻️ Plastic wrappers: Verify if the wrapper carries a recycling symbol or number. If your local authority doesn’t recycle these, some supermarkets collect plastic films and bags, or visit Recycle Now UK's website to check where to recycle items all around the UK.
Make your Easter greener and enjoy the celebrations with sustainability in mind!
