This was me.

Many colleagues - former friends - began seeing me as problematic, ‘difficult’, and attention-seeking, and got tired of my sadness and poor mental health. I was ostracised and vilified, and I desperately needed support and understanding when I was in a mental health crisis. Mine was born from grief, and extreme stress, which made my workplace very isolating and exhausting and led to my eventual breakdown.

No one chooses when -or why - they are vulnerable. Instead of punishing people for “causing problems” in the workplace when they are at their most fragile, it would be great if leaders and colleagues offered support and a psychological sanctuary, instead.

Companies are quick to post their support for etc. but often change their tune once you start displaying signs and symptoms of a mental illness - - cos it 'aint pretty! Hopefully, we can all support each other and look out for signs that someone isn't doing too well.
