Young people are too often dismissed as the ‘snowflake generation’, but is that really fair?

In her latest blog, IOSH’s Immediate Past President Kelly Nicoll challenges this narrative. Like snowflakes, young workers can’t thrive in the wrong conditions, but with the right support, they can help create something truly remarkable.

Our recent research shows many young workers feel unsupported, undervalued and overlooked.

➡️31% have considered leaving their job due to its impact on wellbeing

This isn’t about fragility, it’s about environment.

Today’s young people are navigating unprecedented challenges, from the impact of the pandemic to a rapidly changing world of work. Yet many enter the workplace without a clear understanding of their health, safety and wellbeing or the confidence to speak up.

It’s time we all take responsibility – employers, educators and health and safety professionals alike.

Let’s move beyond outdated labels and instead create workplaces where young people feel supported, valued and able to thrive.

At the IOSH Insight Hub at Safety, Health Wellbeing Live, we explored how IOSH qualifications help elevate safety, performance and professional standards across the OSH community.
