WE’RE HIRING: EYEWEAR STYLIST

Full-time | Tuesday to Saturday | Halifax

This isn’t a typical optical assistant role.

At Bottomleys, we take time to understand our clients and help them discover eyewear they genuinely love.

We’re looking for a warm, confident self-starter with a natural eye for style and a real talent for looking after people.

You may already work in optics, fashion, luxury retail, beauty or hospitality. Optical experience is helpful but not essential. We can teach you the technical side.

You’ll help clients choose the right frames and lenses, take basic measurements, fit and adjust glasses, process orders and look after them throughout their entire experience.

You’ll need to be:

• Brilliant with people
• Stylish and detail-conscious
• Organised, reliable and proactive
• Comfortable giving an honest opinion
• Genuinely bothered about exceptional service

Full training and ongoing development provided. Salary dependent on experience.

To apply, email your CV and tell us why you’d make a brilliant Eyewear Stylist at Bottomleys.

Why having one pair of glasses often isn't enough.

You wouldn't expect one pair of shoes to be perfect for every occasion. So why do we expect one pair of glasses to do everything?

Many people find life gets noticeably easier when they stop asking one pair to handle it all.

An everyday pair for general wear. A pair optimised for the screen if you spend long hours at a computer. Prescription sunglasses so you're not squinting or swapping to lenses you can't actually see through properly in summer.

Each has a different job. Each can be chosen to do that job well.

The second pair doesn't have to cost as much as the first. And the difference it makes to daily comfort is often more significant than people expect.

It's one of the simplest changes clients tell us they wish they'd made years ago.

3 things nobody tells you about varifocals.

Varifocals have a bit of a reputation. Some people swear by them. Others seem to know somebody who "could never get on with them." The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

Here are three things most people aren't told.

1. Not all varifocals are the same. This is probably the biggest surprise. People often talk about varifocals as though they're all identical. They're not. Different lens designs can produce very different experiences. Some offer wider fields of vision. Some are easier to adapt to. Some are better for driving. Some are better for computer work. Two people with the same prescription could have completely different experiences depending on the lenses they choose.

2. Your measurements matter just as much as the lens. Imagine buying a bespoke suit using somebody else's measurements. It wouldn't work very well. Varifocals are similar, and there's more to it than people realise. Everything is measured from the way a particular frame sits on your particular face. Those measurements change from person to person. There are several variables in the face and frame combination alone, before you even get to the optical centres and heights on the lenses themselves. Even the best lens in the world can disappoint if all of that isn't measured accurately.

3. Most varifocal problems can be solved. This is the bit nobody talks about. Many people assume that if they struggle with varifocals, then varifocals simply aren't for them. In reality there are often solutions. Different lens designs. Different fitting positions. Different frame choices. Different visual habits. The key is working with somebody who understands how all those pieces fit together.

The best varifocals aren't necessarily the most expensive. They're the ones that suit your eyes, your lifestyle and the way you use them every day. And that's why one person's "life changing" varifocals can be another person's disappointment. It's rarely just about the prescription.
