About 1 in every 2 black women will have fibroids by the time they are 50.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the womb—very common, especially in women of African descent.

They may cause heavy periods, bloating, or pain.

Causes include hormones and genetics.

Healthy diet, early checkups, meds, or surgery can help manage or remove them.

Most people have no idea about this and it has often been misdiagnosed and keeled a lot of women.

A recent research shows that the use of relaxers has been identified as the culprit in uterine cancer.

I don’t want to go into the scientifics of it but all I can say is use relaxers sparingly if you have to. Maybe twice a year or just go natural.

“Attachments” have also been associated with carcinogenicity in recent times.

Now you may say everything causes cancer, how did our fore bears survive. It’s actually overwhelming but I will like to say moderation is key in everything.

Be aware.

Eat sugar please, your body needs it. Eat salt too, it has its roles to play. Same as carbs, very important. The key is moderation. Some should be eaten in little quantities, abide by that.

Your body knows how to metabolize these “natural” substances than their alternatives that are synthetics.

I always tell my students and everyone around me that sweeteners are not all safe. Same as aspertame and its derivatives and these are the substances that are used to sweeten products that say there is no sugar in them.

The body can convert complex sugars and starch to simple sugars and use them. It stores the excess and releases them when your body needs it or excretes them. This is safe for your body.

Using “ma-g-gie” (not the product but generalized name for bullion cubes in Nigeria) as an alternative for salt is just not healthy. It has salt but the Sodium is a different breed. Let me put it that way.

I rest my case.
