When asked about what battery I have there is a simple answer.

Why Optima Yellow Top? Good question. I have a few of these, mainly as leisure batteries and connected to my solar, when overlanding. They are deep cycle and offer the best performance for me.

Next question….Is Optima Yellow Top good as a starting battery? Deep cycle are not ordinarily associated as a starting battery. Yes, Yellow Tops offer great starting and deep cycle characteristics. More practical for running winches and extended electrical items.

If you’re looking for just stating, then the Red Top is more than enough.

If you’re under water, then a Blue Top :-)

Long story short…I use Yellow Top both for onboard and off board operations. I interchange them frequently and have found them to be more than suitable for my overlanding needs.
