Spotlight on Alatis network expert François LEGRAND

We asked him four questions:

Can you tell us about your background and what led you to work in the field of intellectual property (IP)?
I have a dual scientific and legal background, which is requirement for working in the IP field. My dual skills drove me to the profession of Patent Attorney (IPA), which I am passionate about.
With over 15 years of experience, I had the opportunity to work in law firms of various sizes, as well as in the industry, when I spent time at the IP department of the Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA). These experiences have enabled me to understand the strategic and technical issues involved in protecting innovation.

What are the main technologies or sectors you work in?
As a specialist in patent law, I am involved in all stages of a patent's life cycle, from filing to defending rights in the event of litigation. I am also involved in the evaluation and valorization of patents to help my clients make the most value of their portfolio.
My projects cover a wide range of sectors: mechanical engineering, electronics, AI and other new technologies.
What I am passionate about is supporting companies of all sizes, from start-ups to major industries, by building tailor-made protection strategies and efficiently defending their rights.

Can you share with us some of your most outstanding achievements and what motivated you most in these projects?
Among my most notable achievements, I would cite the implementation of IP protection strategies that are perfectly tailored to my customers' needs. These strategies include combining patents, trademarks and designs to guarantee comprehensive protection.
Another important achievement has been my involvement with , the Association of European Patent Practitioners, where I have the honor of chairing the Strategy & Management of Patent Portfolios Commission and acting as treasurer. This role enables me to collaborate with my peers and contributes to the evolution of the profession.
