Autumn is a melancholic season. The Song of Autumn (‘‘Chanson d’automne’’) was written by Paul Verlaine, a French poet associated with the Symbolist movement in the 19th-century. His poetry was known for its elegance, refinement and musicality. This poem expresses the sadness and disappointment in the poet's heart. The poem was also adapted into a French song.
