Move better.
Feel better.
See differently.

STOP doing this in your handstand. 🚫
For years, many of us were taught to “pull the shoulders down away from the ears” whenever the arms reached overhead.
The problem?
Your body doesn’t work that way.
If you’re hanging from a tree, your shoulders naturally elevate.
If you’re pushing the floor away in Downward Dog, Handstand, Pincha, or any weight-bearing position, your scapulae need to elevate and upwardly rotate to create stability, strength, and space.
Trying to force scapular depression in these positions can reduce efficiency, limit your overhead range, and in some cases contribute to unnecessary strain.
Yoga has evolved.
Movement science has evolved.
Our teaching should evolve too.
Not every cue from the 90s deserves to survive into 2026.
The best teachers aren’t the ones who repeat what they were taught.
They’re the ones willing to question it.
👇 Have you ever been told to keep your shoulders away from your ears in handstand or Downward Dog?
Comment YES if you’ve heard this cue before.
And save this post for the next time someone tells you to “drop your shoulders.” 😉
