Every portrait begins long before the shutter clicks. It begins with distance — two strangers standing on opposite sides of a lens. There is a quiet hesitation at first, a natural awareness of being seen. But slowly, something shifts. The space between photographer and subject becomes softer, more human.

I’m not interested in capturing a perfect version of someone. I’m interested in the subtle contradictions — strength mixed with vulnerability, confidence touched by doubt, calm hiding restless thoughts. A portrait is not about controlling how someone appears. It’s about creating a space where they don’t have to perform.

Sometimes the most powerful frame happens in the in-between moments — when the pose drops, when the eyes wander, when silence settles naturally. That’s when a person feels real, not arranged. And to me, that quiet authenticity is what gives a portrait its depth. It’s not about how the image looks. It’s about how it feels long after you’ve looked away.

There’s no clear reason, no checklist.
Something simply asks for attention.
Photography is learning to trust that quiet instinct.
It’s not about chasing meaning, but allowing it to appear on its own.
Sometimes the image stays with me.
Sometimes it’s the pause itself that matters — the moment I chose to stop, to look, to feel.
Either way, photography leaves me changed, even in ways I can’t explain.

Photography has taught me how to wait, how to observe without rushing,
how to trust my feeling more than the rules.
Sometimes I don’t fully understand a moment while I’m photographing it.
I understand it later, when I look back and realize why I couldn’t let it go.
Each image is a small act of holding on,
a reminder that even fleeting, ordinary moments can carry meaning,
if we choose to really see them.
