The event, held on May 14, 2026, successfully brought together OPDs and key community representatives to discuss the needs and challenges of persons with disabilities and to strengthen awareness and advocacy efforts.
Participants from FBOs and various CBOs, including women’s associations, elders’ associations, youth associations, and edir groups, actively engaged in awareness sessions and discussions. The program also provided updates on global and national disability data and highlighted major challenges faced by persons with disabilities. The session began with a prayer led by religious leaders.
During the event, participants reviewed last year’s activities related to disability rights and social responsibility, and developed action plans for the coming three months to enhance awareness creation and advocacy in their respective organizations and communities.

A two-day training on national and international disability laws was conducted on March 26–27, 2026, for women and girls with disabilities. The training aimed to raise awareness about their rights and legal protections, and participants actively engaged in discussions and experience sharing.
In addition, the program included the celebration of the 50th anniversary of International Women’s Day 2026 in Ethiopia moto of "Give to Gain", recognizing the contributions and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities.

EECMY-DASSC warmly welcomed official guests from Finland SOWER International at the Head Office in the presence of Commissioner Solomon. The meeting began with a cordial introduction session, followed by a fruitful discussion and exchange of ideas on strengthening partnerships and working collaboratively in future initiatives.

SOWER International, in collaboration with the EECMY-DASSC Addis Ababa Synod Branch Office, through the Empower Persons with Disabilities (EPWD) Project, conducted a two-day training workshop on March 10–11,2026, at Addis Ababa, Bole. The training covered Risk-Aware Governance, Capacity Building and Monitoring Mission, Documentation Management, Leadership, and Management.
The workshop was facilitated by an experienced trainer from Finland and attended by higher officials from the DASSC Head Office, AO, AAS, BO, and all project staff. The training was practical, interactive, and participatory, helping participants strengthen their governance, management, and documentation practices.

The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus Development and Social Services Commission – Addis Ababa Synod Branch Office (EECMY-DASSC AAS-BO), through its Empower Persons with Disabilities (EPWD) Project, has successfully completed the 2026 Income-Generating Activities (IGA) beneficiary selection process through comprehensive home-to-home visits. The selection was conducted based on clearly defined eligibility criteria and implemented in close collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure transparency and fairness. As a result, women with disabilities from all waradas of Bole Sub-city were carefully identified and selected to participate in the program. This initiative aims to promote economic empowerment, social inclusion, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for women with disabilities in the community.

As part of the Empower Persons with Disability (EPWD) Project implemented by EECMY-DASSC AAS-BO in partnership with SOWER International, our project was officially recognized during the Sub-City Mid-Year evaluation Review Event for its outstanding contribution to empowering persons with disabilities.

As part of the Empower Persons with Disability (EPWD) Project, implemented by EECMY-DASSC AAS-BO in collaboration with SOWER International, a field visit was conducted on January 29 and 30, 2026, to assess the status of the 2025 Income-Generating Activities (IGA) groups. The visit covered many woredas of Bole Sub-City, Addis Ababa. Overall, the IGA groups were found to be in good condition and progressing well. The field visit was carried out by EPWD project staff and Volunteers.
