Today we were in talks with Luke, a research assistant currently studying the expansion of wolf populations in the south of Spain, looking at habitat preferences & possibilities etc. Luke mentioned he’s learning loads of new skills, but more importantly seeing this field of work, something he is used to working within back home, in a European context has been very helpful. There’s loads of new ways of working that are new to Luke, which will be beneficial to him for when he returns home!

Luke mentioned that he’s enjoying the pace of life here in Seville – going on to mention how he feels quite safe here considering there are people out on the streets enjoying the scenery and a cerveza at all times of day and night, so one never feels too lonely on the Sevillian streets!

This week, we’re talking to Grace; who’s currently on placement with 3SI working in the field of plants, evolution and ecology. Currently she is studying how environmental factors change the appearance of plants & whether those traits can be inherited into future strains of that plant life. ¡Muy científico! A typical day for Grace involves a whole lot of scientific research, maintenance of the greenhouse in her workplace, care for the plants, documenting them and when necessary, culling the crop to take it into the lab and study it.

Grace has been enjoying pottering around Seville, practicing her Spanish and interacting with the people of Seville. She mentioned that just a few nights previously, she spent the night chatting away to a local dancer from Triana. Practicing Spanish has been a highlight for Grace and she’s loving her life here in the south of Espana!

When asked if she would recommend this scheme, she said absolutely! As for why, Grace told us it’s an excellent way to hone your skills in a specific field of work and that there are countless benefits to immersing oneself into a different culture; she’s summed up her experience here so far as this; educational, adventurous and sunny. ☀
