Underground Cable Installation Techniques – An Overview:

• Push – A mechanical pusher inserts the cable into the duct. Ideal for short distances and rigid, durable cables.

• Pull – The traditional method using a winch to pull cable through. Effective for medium distances and fairly straight paths.

• Push-Pull – Combines pushing at the entry and pulling from the exit to reach longer distances with reduced cable strain.

• Jetting – A modern technique invented by Plumettaz, using compressed air plus pushing. Perfect for delicate cables like optical fiber, enabling very long installations.

• Floating – Uses water instead of air to gently transport cables. Works for both small telecom cables and robust power cables.

• Water Push-Pull – Uses a patented shuttle (or pig) with water pressure to install high-voltage cables over 1km, even up to 16cm in diameter.

• Free Floating – Relies on water and guiding pigs to transport cable sections, especially useful in offshore settings like wind farms.
