On this day in football: May 1, 1989, the world’s biggest football stadium opened in North Korea 🇰🇵
At its peak, the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium could hold up to 150,000 people. Today, it holds up to 114,000. It’s a purely outrageous number, in a location you probably wouldn’t expect to host the world’s biggest stadium.
North Korea is one of the most isolated countries in the world, meaning not many groundhoppers have had the chance to visit this arena.

This stadium in Prague could once upon a time fit 250,000 people.
The Great Strahov Stadium today is a training ground for Sparta Prague but during its time of greatness could hold events that fit 250,000 people.
Listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 2003, much of the stadium today sits in ruins. What remains in use is Sparta Praha's training ground. 8 pitches inside a decaying concrete shell.
During its time of greatness the stadium could hold events that fit 250,000 people, although the most it ever attracted was 350,000 people in a 1938 anti-war demonstration.
