Fela Kuti once affirmed that an African should approach jazz through the language of African music, never the reverse. This idea has guided my own artistic path. I shared many moments of exchange with him in Paris, at his hotel in the 11th arrondissement, a few years before his passing. This video captures a rehearsal at Luna Rossa Studio in Paris’s 13th arrondissement, where I perform as a trio with Mario Orsinet on drums (the rhythmic backbone of the music) and Edgar on keyboards… #

The piece was originally composed by King Oliver, who was a mentor to Armstrong and a pioneer of New Orleans jazz.” This is an version by « Louis Amstrong » that I heard on a jazz radio program in duala Cameroun 🇨🇲 when I was a kid .
