WORLD SICKLE CELL DISEASE DAY 2026
As part of World Sickle Cell Day, the Break Sickle Cycle Littoral team had the honor of participating in a program on Dash TV to raise public awareness of the realities faced by people living with this disease.
We had the privilege of speaking with:
• Nyume Marion
• Ms. Linda Obumnekwe, host and journalist at Dash TV
During the discussion, several key topics were addressed:
• The challenges faced by women living with sickle cell disease during menstruation, the potential complications, and solutions to improve their quality of life.
• The importance of genotyping, a simple yet crucial step for making responsible choices and protecting future generations.
• The fundamental role of a balanced diet, proper hydration, and a healthy lifestyle in preventing crises and improving the well-being of those affected.
• The urgent need for blood donation in Cameroon, a true lifesaver for sickle cell patients who regularly face difficulties accessing blood products.
• The necessity of strengthening access to quality, affordable healthcare tailored to the needs of people living with sickle cell disease and the most vulnerable populations.
This presentation was a valuable opportunity to reiterate that awareness, prevention, early detection, blood donation, and access to care are essential pillars in the fight against sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell disease is not a death sentence. Let's educate ourselves, get our genotype tested, donate blood, and join our voices to save lives. Every action counts. ❤️🩸

June 19 – World Sickle Cell Day
Sickle cell disease doesn't choose its child or its family.
It steals smiles, interrupts dreams, fills hospital rooms, and inflicts pain that many cannot even imagine.
Yet, in many cases, this suffering could have been avoided with a simple decision: to get tested.
How many more children will have to suffer before we understand that prevention saves lives?
Silence is costly.
Ignorance is costly.
Failure to get tested is costly.
Today, don't just share a post.
Share information that can change a life.
Talk about sickle cell disease.
Get tested.
Encourage your loved ones to get tested.
Because every child born without being condemned to this disease is a victory for all of humanity.
Prevention begins with awareness.
Screening is an act of love.
Let's break the cycle of sickle cell disease before it shatters more lives.
