Fon of Ndzerem-Nyam Arrested for Investigation in Bamenda
The Fon of Ndzerem-Nyam in the North West Region has been arrested by security forces and taken to Bamenda for questioning in connection with alleged collaboration with separatist fighters operating in the area.
The arrest comes weeks after a security operation in the village reportedly led to the death of nearly 20 individuals amid ongoing efforts by defence and security forces to restore peace and order in the region.
According to reports, the traditional ruler is accused of permitting the presence of armed separatist elements within his community. His mobile phone was also reportedly seized during the operation.
Reacting to the development, the Ndzerem-Nyam Development Association issued a statement expressing concern over the continued custody of the monarch at the Gendarmerie Legion in Bamenda.
The association, however, maintained that the Fon has always been known as a peaceful and neutral personality committed to the stability of his community. It further stated that he had also previously faced accusations from separatist fighters alleging collaboration with the military, placing him in a delicate position amid the ongoing crisis.
The association called for fairness and restraint while investigations continue.

Yagoua: Census Enumerators Suspend Field Operations Over Unpaid Allowances
Field enumerators participating in the 4th General Population and Housing Census and the General Census of Agriculture and Livestock (4-RGPH/RGAE) in Yagoua, Far North Region, have announced the suspension of their activities.
The decision was made public on Friday, May 29, during a meeting with the Divisional Officer of Yagoua Subdivision.
The enumerators cited the non-payment of transport and subsistence allowances as the main reason behind the suspension, noting that the situation has made it difficult for them to effectively continue operations on the ground. They also reported several challenges linked to working conditions, including pressure from certain supervisors.
The nationwide census operation, launched on April 24, is aimed at collecting updated demographic, agricultural, and livestock data to support national development planning. However, difficulties encountered in some localities, including Yagoua, risk slowing down the smooth implementation of the exercise.
Reacting to the concerns, Divisional Officer Souaibou Zourmba reassured the enumerators that their complaints would be transmitted to the competent authorities for appropriate consideration.
The temporary halt in activities could affect the ongoing data collection process in the locality if a rapid solution is not found.
