- March 9, 1977

At 18 years old, Terry underwent surgery to amputate his right leg, six inches above the knee, after being diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma.

The night before, his high school basketball coach, Terri Fleming, visited him and shared an article about Dick Traum β€” an amputee runner who had completed the New York City Marathon.

707 days later, Terry began training for what became the β€” a journey that united millions and transformed cancer research in Canada.

Terry started a marathon against cancer.
