If you notice a mature tree leaning, splitting, developing cracks, or dropping large branches, early assessment provides the greatest opportunity to preserve the tree and protect your property. Waiting until significant structural failure occurs often limits treatment options.

The images show one of our arborists installing a steel cabling system within the upper canopy of a mature tree. Following a structural assessment, attachment points are selected within sound wood before galvanized steel cable, hardware, and support components are installed to supplement the weak branch union. Every installation is carefully tensioned to limit excessive limb movement while allowing the canopy to flex naturally under normal wind loading. Proper cable placement requires technical knowledge of tree biomechanics, load distribution, structural defects, and industry arboricultural standards.

Many mature trees develop structural defects as they age. Weak branch unions, co-dominant stems, included bark, heavy scaffold limbs, and years of wind, rain, and snow loading can cause large limbs to separate or begin splitting apart. Left unaddressed, these defects may lead to branch failure, property damage, or complete tree loss.

Not every mature tree requires removal. Following a professional tree risk assessment, qualified arborists may recommend cabling and bracing to supplement structural support, reduce excessive limb movement, and redistribute mechanical loads. Combined with structural pruning and routine inspections, these arboricultural techniques can help preserve mature trees, extend their service life, and reduce the likelihood of failure during severe weather.

Turning Leaf Tree Service provides expert tree risk assessments, cabling and bracing, structural pruning, and long-term tree care throughout Calgary SE and SW. Building a long-term relationship with one of our expert arborists helps ensure your mature trees remain safe, healthy, structurally sound, and beautiful for decades to come.

What may appear to be a simple hand saw cut is the result of evaluating tree biology, branch architecture, load distribution, growth habits, and the tree's long-term health.

Turning Leaf arborists make precise pruning cuts that improve structure, reduce future defects, encourage healthy growth, and preserve the tree's natural form. Our measure of success is the health, safety, and longevity of the tree long after the work is complete.

Professional arboriculture combines science, experience, and industry standards to determine what should be removed, what should remain, and how each cut will affect the tree for years to come.

If you value and enjoy healthy, long lasting trees as part of your residential green space, it's best to have a maintenance plan in place on advice on a professional arborist, rather than scramble for a service company that is available when tree care becomes urgent.
