News release - Revised requirements to better protect international students

Starting January 1, 2024, Canada has increased the cost-of-living requirement for study permit applicants. The previous amount of $10,000 for a single applicant, unchanged since the early 2000s, has been raised to $20,635 (75% of LICO). This change, in addition to covering the first year's tuition and travel costs, aims to align with the current cost of living. The adjustment applies to new study permit applications received on or after the specified date.
