Taking Care of Your Synthetic Rugs, Eh?

If you’ve got a synthetic rug at home, consider yourself lucky, bud. Unlike natural materials, these plastics are tough as nails, standing up well to all sorts of wear and tear, plus they’re pretty easy to clean. This is especially true for the high-quality rugs dyed with permanent colours.

So, how do you keep your synthetic rug looking spiffy?

First off, avoid letting it get super dirty. Make sure to vacuum it at least once a week, and if you notice any dirt, grab a damp brush and some cleaner to tackle it right away. To stop your rug from getting all static-y, it’s a good idea to give it a spritz with some anti-static spray before you start cleaning. This will help lift the dirt, keep the surface soft and shiny, and prevent that annoying static cling.

Next, give it a good deep clean at least twice a year. Roll it up, shake out the dust, clean it with a damp brush, and then wipe it down with a cloth soaked in cold water. Let it dry out completely (but don’t leave it baking in the sun!), and then you can bring it back inside.

Lastly, if you’ve got a big, nasty stain on your rug, don’t even think about handling it on your own. Best case, you’ll end up with some ugly blotches; worst case, you’ll have to toss the whole thing. Getting a synthetic rug professionally cleaned is way cheaper than shelling out for a new one every time it gets stained.

To be continued, eh…
