Are you really "single" or somewhere along the single scale? sociologist and Dateable Podcast co-host Julie Krafchick introduced this concept, pointing out that most people don’t fall squarely into “single” or “in a relationship.” Instead, they land somewhere along a spectrum.

As Julie describes it, the far left side of the scale represents “single AF” with no romantic prospects, while the right side represents being “off the market.” But in between lies a vast middle ground. Whether it’s casual dating, a situationship, friends with benefits, or an unrequited crush, most people have romantic or s*xual connections in their orbit—even if they’re technically “single.”
