Free Dem Dogs

Solovino translates to “he came alone”.

A month ago we crossed paths with Juan Carlos and Solovino; a homeless pair that live under the pier in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

JC had been homeless for 8 months on his own before Solo walked into his life. They became inseparable— they’re all each other had.

Upon meeting them we knew they shouldn’t be separated, but JC could barely afford to feed himself let alone his companion. So we stepped in to help.

The first step was purchasing dog food and bowls. The second step was a collar and leash for Solo’s safety & so no tourists would mistake him as being a stray without an owner and take him away from JC. The next step was a checkup at the vet to treat him for parasites. Solo walks with a limp, so he also had an xray to see what was going on. The vet suspects he had been hit by a car, but the x-ray records showed no concerns. Solo will always limp due to an old injury that has healed fine.

After all the vet checks we returned Solo to JC’s care. His eyes filled up with tears and he replied, “you have all his papers now, please bring him to Canada and give him a better life than i ever could”.

So that is what we are doing.
We are granting the only wish JC has ever asked of us, which is to give his dog a better life.

Unfortunately after booking and confirming Solo’s reservation on our flight, Air Transat cancelled it and there were no other options to fly him to Toronto.
This time of year many snowbirds fly back home with their own pets after the winter season.

So we’re flying back to Mexico!
On April 29th Madelaina Rae will fly back to Mexico for less than 24 hours to pick up Solovino. she’ll take him to Montreal (the only flight option available) via a different airline and make her way home from there.

It hasn’t been easy.
It has been emotionally exhausting and extremely pricey. It’s costed more than $1500 to save this dog. But we made a promise and we’re sticking to it.

Solovino means “he came alone” but he will not be leaving alone. We are giving JC an iPhone to connect to wifi and keep updated on Solo’s new life.

Solo will leave with Mads (someone he loves & trusts) and never be homeless again.❤️
