Common Ground

In 1606, some 15 years before the first Thanksgiving in the US did Samuel de Champlain and his New France compatriots share a dinner of thanks with the Mi’kmaq of the area to celebrate a successful harvest season.

While isn’t the oldest known celebration of Thanksgiving in Canada, which is an honour that goes to Martin Frobisher and his men in 1578, both are great moments in our history that have endured for nearly 450 years.
