A Coastal Flooding Warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada for the eastern coastline of Haida Gwaii from Rose Spit to Cumshewa Island.

Coastal Flooding Statements have also been issued for the coastlines along west and north Vancouver Island, Greater Victoria, the Southern Gulf Islands, and near Campbell River.

Coastal flooding happens when wind and air pressure “pushes” the water onto shorelines, often resulting in high waves and flooding. This can occur at any time of year but be particularly damaging in icy waters during winter.

Stay away from the coastline and flood waters ✔️

Be aware of risks such as hypothermia from cold water or drowning ✔️

Follow instructions from your First Nation or local government ✔️
