This year, Norooz does not carry the scent of spring for me. It smells of a land exhausted by war and destruction. Witnessing this scale of violence, the devastation of war, the ongoing repression and killing by a criminal regime, and at the same time the extremism, intimidation, and violence within parts of the diaspora is deeply painful and draining for me, and for so many voices that are less often heard.

In the midst of this pain, I take refuge in love, in humanity, in justice, in life and nature, in that force that still connects us to living. I hold on to "Woman, Life, Freedom" as a way to breathe in the suffocation of it all.

نوروز امسال برای من بوی بهار ندارد. بوی خاکی را می‌دهد که از جنگ و ویرانی خسته است. دیدن این حجم از خشونت و ویرانی‌های جنگ، ادامه سرکوب و آدم‌کشی توسط یک رژیم جنایتکار، و هم‌زمان دیدن افراط‌گری، تهدید و خشونت در بخشی از دیاسپورا، برای من و برای بسیاری از صداهایی که کمتر شنیده می‌شوند، عمیقاً دردناک و فرساینده است.

در میان این درد، من به عشق پناه می‌برم، به انسانیت، به عدالت، به حیات و طبیعت، به همان نیرویی که هنوز ما را به زندگی پیوند می‌دهد، به زن، زندگی، آزادی به‌عنوان راهی برای نفس کشیدن در میان این همه خفگی.
