Things people say about bookkeeping that make me cry a little đ
Let me break these down because I hear them constantly and I love you enough to be honest:
âI only need a bookkeeper at tax time.ââ¨This is like only going to the dentist when your tooth falls out. By the time tax season hits, the damage is already done, missed deductions, messy records, and a very stressed accountant who charges you extra for the chaos. Bookkeeping is year-round. Thatâs the whole point.
âI keep all my receipts in a shoebox, thatâs basically the same thing.ââ¨It is not. đ A shoebox is where organization goes to die, you canât make financial decisions from a shoebox, you canât see your profit margins in a shoebox, and when the CRA comes knocking, a shoebox is not going to save you.
âMy business is too small for a bookkeeper.ââ¨This is genuinely the one that gets me the most, because itâs exactly what people say right before they get a letter from the CRA, or realize theyâve been undercharging for years, or find out they owe way more than they expected at tax time. Small businesses need clean books MORE, not less. You donât have a big team to catch mistakes.
If any of these made you laugh a little too hard, your books might need some love. DM me and letâs fix that. đ

If you have ADHD and running a business feels chaotic, your books probably feel impossible đ
I want you to know that thatâs not a character flaw. Itâs actually just ADHD doing what ADHD does.
The truth is, working with a bookkeeper when you have ADHD can feel freeing, when itâs set up the right way.
No more guilt about the pile of receipts no more dreading taxis and no more pretending youâll get to it later.
Hereâs what actually works:
Drop folder system so thereâs zero organizing on your end
Short frequent check-in, instead of one big overwhelming meeting
A bookkeeper who communicates the way your brain needs
Automations that remove the decisions you keep avoiding
Permission to just be honest about where things are at
You donât need to be organized to hire a bookkeeper. Thatâs literally what weâre here for. đ
If this resonated with you comment âbooksâ, Iâd love to chat about what a system that actually works for you could look like!!
10 hidden signs itâs time to hire a bookkeeper đ (save this one)
Most business owners wait way too long. Hereâs what they donât realize theyâre telling me:
1. Youâre doing your books late at night because thereâs no other time đ´
2. Tax season feels like a crisis every single year
3. You donât actually know if your business made money last month
4. Youâve mixed personal and business expenses (even just a few times)
5. Youâre behind on reconciling your accounts, like, months behind
6. You avoid looking at your numbers because they stress you out
7.Youâve missed a GST/HST deadline or filed late
8. Youâre spending more time on admin than on actually running your business
9. Youâve had to guess at your income when applying for anything
10. You think your books are fine⌠but youâre not totally sureIf you nodded at even 2 or 3 of these, your books are probably costing you more than a bookkeeper ever would.
The goal isnât just clean books. Itâs clarity, confidence, and getting your time back. đ
DM me âBOOKSâ and letâs talk about where youâre at.

Monthly bookkeeping vs. yearly drop-offs: which one is actually costing you money? đ°
If youâre still handing your accountant a shoebox of receipts once a year, this oneâs for you.
Hereâs the truth: quarterly or annual bookkeeping is common among small or early-stage businesses, but it comes with significant risk â when records are updated infrequently, small issues can compound quickly ďżź. It also limits your ability to track performance trends or adjust spending in a timely way. ďżź
With monthly bookkeeping, your books are updated every month, not once a year â every sale, payment, and expense is recorded on time, giving you an accurate picture of your finances throughout the year ďżź instead of relying on memory or digging through old receipts.
The cash flow piece matters most: monthly bookkeeping lets you see exactly where money is coming from and where itâs going, so if cash starts running low, you can act before it becomes a problem ďżź.
And the âyearly is cheaperâ myth? Yearly bookkeeping seems cheaper because it involves fewer updates, but the cleanup, penalty risks, and lost deductions often make it more expensive long-term. ďżź Monthly bookkeeping usually costs more during the year, but it often reduces missed deductions, year-end cleanup costs, and tax return preparation friction. ďżź
Bottom line: clean monthly books = fewer surprises, lower CPA fees at tax time, and decisions based on real numbers instead of guesswork.
đ Save this for the next time youâre tempted to âdeal with it in April.â & comment BOOKKEEPING and Iâll send you a dm! đ

A woman owned, 100% Canadian bookkeeping company built for small business owners who want their numbers handled by someone who actually gets it.
Thatâs us and hereâs what makes us different.
Weâre a small Canadian team that knows HST, CRA, and Canadian payroll inside out.
Weâre woman-owned and proud of it, in an industry thatâs still mostly men, we built this for owners who want clear communication and zero judgment.

If youâve been holding off on hiring a bookkeeper because you wanted one who actually feels like a partner, this is your sign.
comment BOOKKEEPING & weâll be in touch!
Three quiet signs your DIY bookkeeping is costing you more than a small business bookkeeper ever would, especially if youâre self-employed or running a small business in Ontario.
Most owners donât catch these until tax season, so save this one:
1. Youâre spending more than 4 hours a month on your books. That might not sound like much, but multiply it by twelve, and youâve handed your business a full work week. Time you couldâve spent on clients, sales, or honestly just sleeping. Your time has a dollar value, and at some point, doing it yourself costs more than paying someone to do it right.
2. Youâre guessing at HST. Be honest. If youâre rounding numbers, âkind ofâ tracking what youâve collected, or hoping the CRA never asks, thatâs a problem waiting to happen. HST mistakes donât just trigger letters from the CRA, they trigger interest, penalties, and stress that lingers for months.
3. Your accountant keeps charging you âcleanup feesâ at year end. This is the biggest one. If your accountant has to fix your books before they can even start your taxes, youâre paying accountant rates (much higher) for what a bookkeeper does for less. A bookkeeper all year = a smaller accountant bill at year end.
If even one of these felt a little too personal, your business has officially graduated from DIY.
Comment BOOKKEEPING, the first call is always free, no pressure, no shame.
