Today, March 10, we’re celebrating an instrument that’s near and dear to our hearts — the bagpipe — for International Bagpipe Day.
Did you know?
🎵Bagpipes are one of the oldest (and loudest) instruments in the world and were once used on the battlefield to rally troops and intimidate enemies.
🎵Bagpipes were traditionally made from the skin of a whole animal, usually a sheep. Nowadays, bagpipes are generally made with artificial fabrics like Gore-Tex.
🎵The bagpipe can play nine notes, from G to A. However, there are no sharps or flats, so there is no need for a key signature.

Honoured to be a part of the Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day ceremony in Edmonton today.
Today several LPS officers, our chaplain, and our Lethbridge Police Pipe Band travelled to the Legislature in Edmonton to pay respects as part of the Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day ceremonies.
The event recognized 106 Alberta officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and included two LPS officers - Acting Sergeant Paul Smith and Constable Calvin Lamonte Byam.
May we continue to honour their ultimate sacrifices.
